AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Your child’s day does not end at 3:00 p.m. and neither does the educational experience at Boulder Country Day! At BCD we strive to support the diverse needs of our families. After 3 at BCD is an after school program for BCD students. The program is designed to support working parents and families who need their children to stay at school after 3:00. Our after school program provides meaningful and exciting learning experiences in a safe and caring environment.

After 3 at BCD is composed of two parts:

              •  After school program - 3:00-5:45

              •  Specialty Classes

After 3 at BCD (After School Program)

Students who participate in After 3 at BCD are supervised at all times. BCD faculty members escort students at dismissal time to our after school locations.

BCD’s youngest students (Preschool, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten) are signed into our after school program “home base” located in the preschool building activity room. Students participate in:

  • • a variety of age appropriate activities, including arts/crafts, cooking projects, science experiments, books, and
  •   puzzles
  • • outdoor playtime (weather permitting)
  • • snack-time (provided by BCD)

Elementary school students in first through fifth grades are escorted to our school library located in the administration building where we take attendance before the students participate in:

  • • a quiet study hall in BCD’s library (a.k.a. homework club)
  • • snack-time (provided by BCD)
  • • outdoor play (weather permitting)
  • • At 5pm, students are escorted to the preschool building where they join in age appropriate activities in a
  •   mixed-age setting.

Middle school students participate in our middle school homework club located in the middle school. There is no charge for this service and it is supervised by a member of our middle school faculty. At 4:30pm, students who have not been picked up will join our elementary homework club/activities and be signed in to After 3 at BCD. Charges will be applied from this time onwards. At 5:00 all students will be escorted to the preschool building where they join in age appropriate activities in a mixed-age setting.

We offer two different payment options for our after school program.

  • • Unlimited Use – $300.00 per trimester per child with a $600.00 per trimester cap per family (Note – The
  •   $600.00 cap ensures that families with more than two children enrolled will never pay more than $600.00 per
  •   trimester for after school). To register, click here.
  • • Hourly - $10/hour per child, per hour – Students who are not signed up for unlimited use will
  •   automatically be billed at our hourly rate. We count time used in ½ hour segments. Invoices are generated
  •   each month.

Specialty Classes

Specialty classes are offered each trimester and are designed to meet the varied interests of BCD students such as cooking, sports, science, chess, technology, STEM, Lego™ Engineering , etc. Specialty classes can also include a weekly music or voice lesson offered through the Parlando School for the Arts on BCD’s campus. Our specialty classes serve the needs of busy parents. We recognize that it is difficult for many parents to schedule specialty classes around their personal schedules and their children’s school schedules. Our after school specialty classes save parents time make scheduling easy!

  • • Students enrolled in an after school specialty class are escorted by a BCD faculty member to their class.
  • • Students who stay on campus after a specialty class ends are picked up from the class and escorted back to
the after school program “home base” located in the preschool building.
  • • Specialty classes vary throughout the year. A catalogue of after school specialty classes is published each
  •   trimester. Click here to view the catalogue.
  • • Specialty classes are affordably priced. Parents register and pay for these classes online.
  • • Please note that the fees associated with specialty classes are separate from and in addition to our after school
  •   program fees.

School Day Off Camps for students in K – 5th grades

BCD has a partnership with the YMCA of Boulder Valley that provides options for students in kindergarten through 5th grades on some days that BCD is closed. The YMCA’s School Day Off Camps are filled with adventure and fun with friends. During the Y’s School Day Off Camps, students will enjoy games, arts and crafts, sports, cooking activities, and field trips in a safe, positive environment.

Students will stay active, bond with their peers and have plenty of activities, and parents will enjoy the convenience and ease of Y care on non-school days. Children should bring a sack lunch and water bottle and wear appropriate clothing. Healthy snacks will be provided. For more information and to register, click here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I pick up my child if he stays After 3 at BCD?

“Home base” is located in the preschool building activity room. The front door of the building is locked after school hours. Please use the intercom located to the left of the door and speak clearly into the receiver to let our faculty members know that you are at the door. A faculty member will open the door for you. Please note that students may only be picked up by persons designated on a student’s emergency contact information.

What if I need to bring my child to school early? Does BCD offer a before school program?

For your convenience, BCD also offers an “Early Bird” before school program beginning at 7:30 a.m. on regular school days. Preschool and prekindergarten age students attend before care in the preschool building. Elementary age students attend before care in the administration building art room. Middle school students attend before care in the middle school. We offer this service free of charge to BCD families.

Who are the teachers working with my children After 3 at BCD?

After 3 at BCD is staffed by highly qualified teaching professionals from BCD as well as the Boulder community. We have a consistent group of after school faculty members, many of whom have been at the school for several years. BCD does a background check on faculty members and specialty class instructors.

What are the behavior expectations of students who stay After 3 at BCD?

After 3 at BCD is an extension of the regular school day and we ask that students who participate continue to follow behavior guidelines outlined in BCD’s school handbook and adhere to our school motto: Respect yourself. Respect others. Take responsibility for your actions.

What if my child is registered for an after school specialty class and attends BCD’s regular after school program… Will I be charged for both services?

If a student is registered for an after school specialty class, parents will not be billed regular after school program fees for time in which a child is in a class. However, if your child attends BCD’s after school program before or after an after school specialty class, hourly fees will apply and your family will automatically be billed at our hourly rate of $10/hour, per child for time used. Hourly fees do not apply for students who are signed up for BCD’s after school program unlimited billing plan.

Can I pick up my child after 5:45 p.m.?

No. Late pick up of students is strongly discouraged. We ask that you pick up your child on time. BCD charges a late fee beginning at 5:45 p.m. of $1.00 per minute/per child for every minute that you are late to pick up. The school pays the late fee directly to our after school faculty as compensation for working beyond their scheduled hours.
