BCD is a Colorado UPK Provider

All children in Colorado can now register for up to 15 hours per week of free, high-quality preschool in their year before kindergarten through Colorado’s Universal Pre-K (UPK) Program. Families are encouraged to contact BCD’s Chief Enrollment and Strategy Officer, Susan Boyle, directly with questions at sboyle@bouldercountryday.org or 303-516-4148.

UPK Enrollment Process per the Colorado Department of Early Childhood
Families looking to continue care with a known provider can pre-register a child who is currently enrolled, who has a sibling currently enrolled, or who has a parent or guardian currently employed with a Universal Preschool Provider. Families can register at upk.colorado.gov, select their current provider as their first choice, or work with their provider for a direct link, from February 29 through March 28, 2024.

Families looking for a new preschool provider can visit upk.colorado.gov to browse 2,000+ high-quality, licensed providers, see if they qualify for additional hours, and register to be matched with one of their top 10 providers of choice. Registration opens February 29 with family and provider “matching rounds” expected in April and July.

Families who have yet to register to Colorado Universal Preschool by the end of July will be able to work directly with a Universal Preschool Provider to enroll, through the end of the school year, as space allows.

    Global Awareness Week 2025

Global Awareness Week is among the most inspiring weeks of the year at BCD. It embodies what it means to be part of the BCD community, part of something bigger. Our Celebration of Cultures potluck creates inclusion and belonging as families share dishes and details of their backgrounds and heritage as we learn from one another. Middle school students explore many paths in Model UN as they research and represent countries in proposing and debating resolutions and wrestle with global issues such as the crises in the Middle East, Sudan, Ukraine, and Guyana. Finally, our youngest Bulldogs showcase their bravery and spirit as they meet the challenge by learning about countries and “competing” in Olympic games while being cheered on by our entire school community. The lessons our students learn from these events are impactful towards their becoming adaptable, empathetic, and engaged global citizens as they help them to better understand the ever-changing world around them. In the words of Louise Derman-Sparks (2010), a prolific writer and supporter of anti-bias education, “These lessons can contribute to their reacting to differences with trust and tolerance... and set the tone for how children will deal with differences among people throughout life.”

  • Jan 22nd, Erin Walsh of the Spark and Stitch Institute, at BCD

One of the most critical issues of our time has been trying to understand the effects of technology use on children. Still questions persist. “Is technology connecting kids or isolating them?” and, “How much is too much?” On January 22nd, BCD will host nationally recognized expert, Erin Walsh of the Spark and Stitch Institute. She will share what the brain science research tells us and review key protective factors for digital wellbeing and keeping children safe from online harms (while still developing their digital strengths in an increasingly digital world). Ms. Walsh’s signature down-to-earth approach and sense of humor eases engagement with this complicated topic and leaves audiences feeling capable and motivated. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage all adults to attend this event and bring a friend.
