Programs

Counseling Office

The Counseling program at Boulder Country Day is a multifaceted prevention and intervention program serving individual students spanning preschool – 8th grade and their families.

In addition to servicing individual needs of students, our counselors provide character development classes for grades TK-8th. This program takes a systemic approach (which includes strong family-teacher involvement and communication) in supporting students in building character, being positive members of the community, becoming critical thinkers, and proficient problem solvers.

The goal of the program is to help support our students discover their excellence and reach their highest potential.

Individual Counseling

The Counseling Office provides one-on-one counseling for students with circumstantial needs as well as ongoing issues affecting their social-emotional well-being and/ or ability to produce their best work at school. Each student is able to schedule up to six individual meetings in advance with additional access during open office hours ongoing.

The office also offers biofeedback within the individual counseling umbrella. This is a wonderful tool used to help students who struggle with attention, impulse control, stress and anxiety challenges.

Family Support and Communication

Strong communication is vital and the Counseling Office is available for family support/consultation. Family support and engagement helps maintain consistency of care and increases the efficacy of any plan for a child. In cases where more support is advisable, counselors may offer referrals to resources outside of the school.

Collaboration with Outside Supports

For students receiving psychological/emotional support outside of school, our counselors will work in collaboration with those parties in order to align and reinforce the same goals and work.

Classroom Learning

Throughout the school year, BCD counselors support the school's overall social-emotional programming by facilitating K-5th grade Kid Power character development classes and 6th-8th Teen Power classes, teaching life and character building skills. Students learn ways to navigate interpersonal and social-emotional issues through experiential activities, worksheets, discussion and role-play.
