ParentSquare Community Guidelines

ParentSquare is our school’s online communication tool. It is a secure place for connecting with one another, posting questions, organizing events, sharing relevant information, requesting help, and anything else that helps build community spirit around our school. Think of it as a community bulletin board.

ParentSquare communications are not moderated, so if you post something, please assume that other people will see it. Here are some guidelines we’d like to follow as a school community:

List of 2 frequently asked questions.

  • Be Respectful

    • Please use a respectful tone and avoid ALL CAPS.
    • Remember that your message will be sent to many people, who are busy like you. Consider your topic’s applicability to others before posting, clearly state the issue in the subject line, and keep repeat posts to a minimum.
    • Assume we’re all people of goodwill doing the best for our kids. Differing opinions are expected and encouraged, but name-calling, disparaging remarks, and personal attacks are not.
    • If you have a concern with a teacher, staff member, or student, please address it privately rather than airing it in a public forum.
    • Avoid discussions about religion, politics, or other potentially inflammatory topics unless your post pertains directly to our school and is presented in a factual manner.
  • Re Responsible

    • Before posting, know that some people have opted into receiving email notifications for every post and comment. As such, please consider who is the most appropriate recipient of the info you want to share. Post to the entire school? Post to a smaller group? Or just sent to few individuals via private message.
    • Post about others as you’d have them post about you -- or your kids. Before you mention a child by name, ask yourself whether his or her parents would approve.
    • Use discretion when posting material from outside of our school. Please don’t forward personal information expressed here to anyone outside the group unless you get permission.
    • Recommend local businesses, services, events, and activities (particularly those that support our school!), but don't use ParentSquare as your personal marketing platform (i.e., no advertising).
    • Limit using ParentSquare to list items for sale. And please make sure anything that you do list for sale is related to families and school and that the item is accessible to all.
Though messages are not moderated before being published, BCD administration reserves the right to remove a post if it doesn’t fit these guidelines. Let’s keep it helpful and courteous. Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 13 frequently asked questions.

  • How do I sign up or opt-in to receive messages and notifications?

You don’t have to take any action to receive emails, texts or phone calls. But if you want to direct message the teacher, sign up for conferences, engage with the classroom, school, or district, you will need to Sign-Up for ParentSquare.
  • What types of messages will I get?

ParentSquare allows BCD administration and teachers to send messages in a variety of ways. One method is a post that would only go to your school’s “feed” in the ParentSquare app or web portal. Your school or teacher also could choose to send that post to parents/guardians in the form of a text or email. Staff can choose to send  a private message to one or more users. For example, the school nurse might text you to ask a question about administering your student’s medication. The third method is a “smart alert” sent at the district and school level — things like the district newsletter, messages from the superintendent and messages about back-to-school nights. They can be sent via text, email or phone call. The final category is an “urgent smart alert.” These messages will be sent via text, email and phone call and include inclement weather notifications and health and safety issues.
  • I've received an invalid registration link. What should I do?

If your registration link expired, you’ll need a new one. Please contact your school office or send us an email to support@parentsquare.com and ask for a new link to be sent to you.
  • Can I access communications for more than one of my students from the same account?

Yes. The first time that you log into the app or web portal, all of your students should automatically be listed in the upper left hand corner. If you don’t see them, please contact your school office(s).
  • What are the message/alert/notification categories, and what do they mean?

You can choose to receive messages via email, text, voice and/or the app. While you can opt out of any of these methods of communication, please note that the district has the discretion to override opt-outs for messages and alerts deemed urgent or important, including health and safety situations and attendance.
  • Is it possible to contact my child's teacher directly and privately?

You can contact your child's teacher privately by using the direct messaging tool. We ask that you do not use email BCD teachers and/or staff.

On the home page, click on "Messaging" in the left sidebar. From there, you can send a direct message to your child's teacher that only you and the teacher can see. You also can send messages to other staff members at the school, such as your child's coaches and club leaders. You can send these messages in your preferred language; the messages will arrive to staff in English. Here is a link to our help page on direct messaging.
  • Can I change the email and/or cell phone number on my account?

If you wish to change your contact information, you should make the change in your BCD portal profile. BCD administration will sync our portal data with ParentSquare on a regular basis.
  • My email is correct in ParentSquare. Why am I not receiving emails?

Please check your spam to see if any ParentSquare messages ended up there and mark them as "Not Spam." Also add donotreply@parentsquare.com to your email contacts so your server recognizes our messages. If you still aren’t receiving emails, please contact us at support@parentsquare.com so that we can assist you.
  • How can I edit my conference sign up?

In order to change your sign up, you must delete your existing sign up and sign up again for the correct slot. To delete your sign up, hover your mouse over your name, and you’ll see a trash can appear to the right of your name. Click on the trash, can and your sign up will be removed. Then, you can click on the "Sign Up" button that corresponds with the correct slot.
  • Can I change my RSVP?

If your plans change and you would like to change your RSVP, click on "Sign Ups and RSVPs" under the participation tab in the left sidebar. On this page, find the event that you had previously sent an RSVP for and click the green button that says "Change my RSVP" on the right side.
  • How do I change my password?

Please go to parentsquare.com and on the login page, click "Forgot Password." Put in your email or phone number, and you’ll be sent a link to reset your password.
  • I am getting too many messages from ParentSquare. Is it possible to receive fewer notifications?

You can customize your notification settings by going to your homepage and clicking on your name in the top right corner and selecting "My Account" from the drop-down menu. On your account page, you find your notification settings in the top right corner and click "Change This" to customize your notifications. If you’re receiving too many notifications, try changing to "digest" setting, meaning you’ll only receive one condensed message in the evening. Here is a help article on changing your notification settings.
  • English is not my first language. How can I receive content in my native language?

You can customize your language settings by going to "My Account" and clicking "Change This" under language settings. From there, you can choose any language that you prefer from the drop-down menu, and you’ll start to receive content in that language. Here is a help article on how to change your language settings.

ParentSquare Tips

List of 2 items.

  • Solution for too many notifications

If you have downloaded the App to your phone, you may want to try the following settings:
    ·         Instant for notifications,
    ·         Digest for email, and
    ·         Off for text
This will allow you to receive notifications through the app as posts are made with the benefit of a follow-up email at the end of the day that will digest all communications from that day.
  • Solution to be sure you don’t miss any posts

On the mobile app (via the bell icon at the top right) you can see all posts and alerts in chronological order in one place. You will need to have notifications turned on for the app for this to work. Note, the bell icon on the website does not do the same thing, this is only a mobile app feature.

Will the BCD portal still be used?

Yes. While ParentSquare is our communication platform, BCD uses our Portal as our centralized database and student learning management platform.

The Portal is used to:
  • Maintain your contact information with BCD (changes to contact details should not be made in ParentSquare)
  • Annually complete your profile forms with details such as family doctor information, persons authorized to pickup your children, and photo authorization
  • Monitor your students grades, attendance, and other academic information

Will Configio still be used?
